BRINDLE CUCKOO WALKS
Hello walkers,
Next year's Cuckoo walks are planned for Saturday 22nd April 2017, so please make a note in your diaries.
The first walks took place in October 2004 when there were 45 walkers, then again in April 2005 when 147 took part. The event has been repeated every April since then and has attracted around 200 walkers for the subsequent eleven years. Next year will be the 14th anniversary of the walks.
I have been involved with arranging the walks since 2009, and after Alec Burford and Mike McGovern stepped down in 2009 and 2010 respectively, have done all the planning and coordination on my own.. The event has only been possible with the support of the great team of helpers on the day.
.
After a lot of thought, I have decided to step down after next April, my ninth Cuckoo walk, and I am looking for someone to take over my role.
.
If you might be interested, then please let me know so that you could shadow me in planning next year's walks. It would be best if you came from the Brindle or surrounding area for obvious reasons, but not necessarily so.
.
I really hope someone will come forward to ensure the continued success of the walks, which are highly regarded as an important and enjoyable community and fund raising event.
Please contact me if you would like more information and, regardless, hope to see you next April

You can find out more general information about the walks by visiting the Brindle Community Hall web site (www.brindlecommunityhall.co.uk), but as far as previous walkers are concerned the format remains much the same, but again with cold drinks (and cake) along the routes
The 3 mile walk: This has been a very successful distance enjoyed by the younger children and toddlers in particular as well as adult walkers who enjoy a less demanding walk.
The 6 mile walk: This will be a different route to last year, still to be planned but will be suitable for regular walkers
The 9 mile walk: This walk still has to be planned, but will be a bit more challenging than the six mile route
The 12 mile walk: This walk might visit Brinscall, Withnell Moors, and White Coppice. It will have significant uphill bits, but anyone with a reasonable level of walking fitness would find the walk suitable. Alternatively a route in and around Brindle and Hoghton may be chosen.
The 24 mile walk: This distance has been withdrawn due to low uptake.
We now have e-mail contact details for over 300 walkers. So if you can, please continue to use the e-mail address below to respond, but we will of course use the post for those who do not have an e-mail account.
Please note my new contact details on the registration form. You can also continue to contact me at cuckoowalks@btinternet.com.
We look forward to seeing you in April.
